Hopefully you will understand that our animals' best interests are at the heart of what we do and our ultimate goal is to find perfect matches! We are looking for active pet homes that are engaged with their dogs regularly or for working/herding homes that know how to train them for the job they need and who have a safe place for them when they are not working.
We do not have an adoption quota or a timeline to meet and our foster families are always given the option to adopt the dog, for all the work they put into making them adoptable, before we consider an application. Please understand, even if it is the only application received, it may not receive approval if it does not appear to meet the needs of that particular dog or if the Meet 'n' Greet does not go well. We look for the BEST match for each dog but we can only consider applications if & when we receive them. We do not keep a list of interested adopters.
We do consider long distance applications but we very rarely ship our dogs to people or places unknown, as the Meet n Greet is a very important part of the process. That process may take a little longer as we will need to find local volunteers to do the home visit. If that is not possible, we are willing to do a virtual home visit if the adopters are comfortable sending photos or videos of where the dog will be living.
All dogs in our care receive the following:
*All dogs 6 months or older, regardless of pedigree, will be spayed or neutered prior to being added to the adoptable list. Puppies younger than 6 months will not be available for adoption until they are spayed or neutered.
Puppies (up to 1 year old)....................................................$350
Young Adults (> 1 year, up to 4 years old)...................$300
Mature Adults (> 4 years, up to 8 years old).............$250
Senior Dogs (> 8 years old)....................................DONATION
A $100 non-refundable deposit required at time of approval, if adoption transfer date is delayed by request.
In the event that the dog receives professional training, to help them be better pets or to put their herding instincts to work, we may need to recoup those costs. Those costs will be outlined to the adopter prior to the adoption.
Although our fees often do not cover the actual costs incurred from intake to adoption, we reserve the right to waive adoption fees for any reason.
Once you have received the application, please read through it carefully and fill it out as completely as possible, including the email addresses for your references. Waiting for the references is usually the biggest delay.
Please scan & email the pages back to us. If you do not have a scanner, you can take a picture of each page, from straight above, & email or message them back to us. Please make sure the pages are in focus & legible.
Your application will be reviewed by one or more of our directors, as well as the foster family who knows the dog best. If the dog you would like to adopt is deemed a good match to your family, your home & your lifestyle, your application is likely to be approved & the dog will move to "Adoption Pending" status until the process is complete.
Applications are reviewed & considered on a first-come basis BUT, even if it is the only application received, it may not be approved if it is not a good match to the dog's needs.
In most cases, a home visit will be required & arrangements will be made for a local-to-you volunteer to visit at a scheduled time.
In the case of a long distance adoption, you may be asked to submit pictures and/or video of the home & yard where the dog will living.
Once we have received your application, your references & the home visit is scheduled or done, arrangements will be made for you, your family & any other current pets to meet with the dog. This generally occurs at the foster home, but if it works to meet at a neutral area somewhere in between, that may also be possible.
The Meet n Greet part of the process is often the most time consuming, but also the most important, as it tells us a lot about the potential match. We recommend that any family members, including pets, that will be interacting with the dog regularly be present for the Meet n Greet.
It is a VERY rare occasion that we will consider shipping our dogs to people or places unknown. Being prepared to travel for a Meet n Greet, where you would likely pick up the dog the same day, shows us your commitment to the adoption of a particular dog.
