VANCOUVER & NANAIMO, BC / MEDICINE HAT, AB — Rogan, the renowned painting dog from Medicine Hat, has partnered with Vancouver Island-based Foley Dog Treat Company to raise $5,000 for Alberta Herding Dog Rescue. Rogan has painted a limited edition dog treat bag and curated his own recipe to give to the organization he loves dearly. Each 170g bag sells for $9.99 each via www.foleydogtreat.com; and with 500 bags produced, all sales will be going to Alberta Herding Dog Rescue for a total of $5,000.
Rogan is a miniature Australian shepherd from Medicine Hat, Alberta. He started painting in 2020 when his owner, Megan Bolen, started training Rogan to paint as a dare from a friend.
10 days later, Rogan was painting away. To this day, Rogan has sold over 200 paintings with everything they receive being donated to charities to help other dogs.
Foley Dog Treat Company started 10 years ago as a home-based business on Vancouver Island, BC; determined to create healthy treats for dogs with real ingredients and no fillers or preservatives. It turns out many dog owners were looking for healthier options for their beloved pups and the business grew into its own facility with distribution now stretching across Canada.
Today, we are a certified Human Food Grade facility, continuing to focus on producing only healthy treats from ingredients sourced in Canada. Our brands include Foley’s Vitality Dog, Foley Bites, Dog’n It, and Treat Haus WholeDog. We are a proud member of “Island Good” and a Living Wage Employer.
All dogs deserve the best nutrition options and we’re proud to make delicious, healthy treats for all the “Foley Dogs” out there.
Rogan, a miniature Australian shepherd from Medicine Hat, Alta., started painting in 2020. His owner, Megan Bolen, says it was supposed to be something fun to do together. To date, Rogan has painted over 200 paintings and has raised over $5,000 for local rescues. His work appeared in an art exhibit in Hong Kong earlier this year resulting in one of his biggest accomplishments thus far.
Foley Dog Treat Company’s limited edition Rogan Paints dog treat bags feature a one-of-a-kind Rogan painting on the front, making it the perfect art piece for display. To honour the true collaboration between Rogan and Foley Dog Treat Company, a special Rogan recipe was created to showcase flavour profiles from both of their backyards: Alberta Beef Liver and BC Blueberries. These 170g recyclable bags are printed in Vancouver.
“We were ecstatic when we got a message from Foley Dog Treat Company on this special project!” Bolen said. “The fact that they are based in Canada and their ingredients are locally sourced and human-grade align perfectly with our values and Rogan’s diet.”
“And we get another opportunity to raise money for local charities - it’s a win-win. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Alberta Herding Dog Rescue by the end of November this year.”
Owner of Foley Dog Treat Company, Daniel Stiefvater, says, “I first heard of Rogan on the radio as I was driving into work and knew right away this would be a fun collaboration as we look to build on our philanthropy initiatives… if Rogan agreed.”
“We’re so happy they did!” exclaims Stiefvater.
Cindy Swiney from Alberta Herding Dog Rescue is over the moon on this special initiative. “We are so grateful to Rogan and Foley Dog Treat Company for donating all of their proceeds from the sales of these remarkable and healthy treats to our organization. The money we will be receiving will help us rescue, rehabilitate, re-train, and re-home herding dogs, ensuring they live their best lives.”
“We are also very fortunate to have Foley Dog Treat Company supply a year’s worth of Rogan Paints dog treats for us to give out to families who adopt after the launch. Each new adoption will receive this special limited edition dog treat bag to take home with them, along with the new addition to their family! Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
